3 MAY 2021 - My Team

Posted on 08 May 2021 @ 2:38pm by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Kevin Roe

The day started without much sleep arriving last night from NYC and having to get some semblance of furniture together. I first met with my new SAC who seemed nice enough didn't spend enough time with her to really get a read but I've heard good things through the grapevine about her. The new building they opened for CGPD and CGIS at Base Portsmouth is incredible. I probably have a nicer office here than I would at CGIS HQ (based at USCG HQ in DC).

My team is pretty diverse in backgrounds made up of some military and a couple of civilians though even one of them was Army prior. Had an interesting discussion with the army civ, Passolini, about the possibility of trying to come back in as a full-time reservist so we'll see if I can use my connections to help make that happen if she's into the idea. She also mentioned having an Uncle who retired from USCG as an MCPO. I wonder if he's in the area... it'd be nice to facilitate a tour of what is happening in the USCG and CGIS these days. I wanted to ask more but wasn't sure prying was the answer we'll have a few years to get to know each other at least.

I like my new work car, brand new, first user was me. I also like the take-home perk I'm being afforded throughout the assignment. I don't really know how I'm feeling about leading the team yet... I know I'm capable but it's too soon to really feel any particular way about the direction it will go and how effective I will and can be and the team as well.

Our first assignment starts Thursday with a trip to Cape May and we're expecting a thirty to sixty-day deployment up there to cover while they find some new RAs. I am astonished personnel screwed up so badly but at the same time, I'm not surprised... it's a confusing feeling that I'm sure anyone in the military or government service can understand.

I can't help but feel that CGPD in Cape May is taking advantage of the situation. I'm sure the list of cases might be a bit more bullshit than deserving but I'll do what I can to make life easier up there so if we have to return in the future we'll have a good working relationship with the local CGPD guys.

Anyway, I need to get to working on unpacking my apartment some before I continue to get ready to leave it tomorrow... That's all for now.
